With minimalism falling back into trend, the ballet slipper is emerging as a key player in the quest for effortless, chic style this season. Simply put, its timeless elegance, paired with its practicality, allows it to reclaim its rightful place in our wardrobes. When you think of ballet flats, perhaps images of Kate Moss immediately come to mind. She styles them with everything from bohemian scarves and waistcoats to more polished ensembles featuring blazers, skinny jeans, and, of course, the classic minidress. The ballet slipper stands out as an enduring classic—far from the fleeting fads like chokers or micro bags—and, in my opinion, I believe that this shoe should have never fallen out of favour in the first place.

Now, if you're still on the fence about bringing these back into your wardrobe, let me talk you through a few ways to style the ballet slipper.

Look 1: Denim, Done Right

The first look features an iconic and understated combination that feels effortlessly cool. Picture a pair of dark wash jeans paired with a simple white tee. To bring it all together, add a dark wash jacket and a colourful belt and, voilà! This look you've created combines the playful charm of a ballet slipper with the laid-back vibe of denim, balancing both femininity and casual cool. Whether you're running errands, grabbing a coffee, or simply enjoying a day of shopping, you're good to go.

Look 2: Balletcore Elevated

Now, for my personal favourite interpretation of the ballet slipper—balletcore at its finest. Spotted in Malibu, the effortlessly chic model Bella Hadid completely nailed this look. By pairing a black and white, vintage Chanel 60s Mod style dress with cream leg warmers and a pair of baby-blue ballet-style pumps, she created a standout fall outfit that feels both cozy and stylish. If you're feeling a little adventurous, this look is a great way to embrace the balletcore trend without going overboard.

Look 3: The Fall Twist

This is not only one of my favourite looks but also one of the most practical. Once you’ve reached fall’s cold portion, leaving any part of your foot exposed feels like a questionable decision, but that’s not to say you can’t wear flats then, though. Pair the ballet slipper with funky coloured socks, and you’ve got yourself an updated take on classic footwear that’s not only toasty, but surprisingly stylish.

So, what do you think?

Are you ready to welcome the ballet slipper back into your fall wardrobe? Whether you’re styling them casually with denim or making a more daring statement with leg warmers, this season offers plenty of ways to experiment with this iconic footwear. So, go ahead, indulge in the elegance and versatility of the ballet slipper—you might just find yourself reaching for them more often than you thought.
